Post Mortem to my first Devtober(2020)
Tunnel was the last game of my devtober challenge. I post my post mortem as a devlog of this one.
Devtober was the best challenge for me!!
It is really hard to make progress on something every single day. I have always struggled about consistency and concentration. Even so I decided to join devtober. My first rule was "NO big games!!". Because big projects needs consistency and takes long times and I am just a self-educated amateur game developer. My goal in this challenge was creating small games in minimum amount of times and learn new thing as much as I could. And I got lucky because on the second day of the challange LudumDare47 announced. And I started to develop first game of devtober.
Loopy:
LDjam's theme tihs year was: stuck in a loop. And I made a puzzle game that you try to collect points and avoid obstacles. You have to draw a path for loopy and loopy is gonna repeats your path indefinetly. It took 2 days to create the game. After the submission I continued to polish the game a couple days more according to feedbacks on jam's site. It was my first jam and I'm really satisfied with the results.
The Cage:
After Loopy I decided to pass to a new project as soon as possible. And assigned a new theme to myself which was: "cage". I actually rendered the word "cage" in a pretty abstract way. But I was satisfied with the idea. This one became a puzzle game again where you try to collect points and try to reach the finish tile. But you need to capture the points in order to collect it so you need to be aware of your cage's rotation.
Tunnel:
After The Cage I started to struggle to find new game ideas. And started to prototype minigames while thinking a better mechanic or an idea. One of those prototypes became something satisfying to play. So I decided to polish it. With a little bit post processing and variations it turned into something playable. And I published it on the last day of devtober and ended my challenge.
Thus, with this challenge I managed to develop three games in one month. I know they can be polished more or can be added more level etc. But my actual goal was making a progress every single day and create something. And I think I succesfully managed that. I posted a progress every day on twitter. I think I've beaten my consistency problem and I might be ready for bigger projects.

And as a note: On the last days of devtober an earthquake happened on my hometown with magnitude of 6.9. It was the scariest incident that ever happened to me. Every hour we continue to hear horrible news from tv. It is really hard to share new posts about my progress and my games without mentioning this. Please pray for those victims who suffers because of the earthquake. #PrayForIzmir #PrayForTurkey
